Do you put your kid down and he immediately wakes up? The startle reaction is sometimes to blame.
When a newborn is shocked, the startle reaction, also known as the Moro reflex, is an involuntary response. Your baby’s arms will spread wide and then come together in a bear hug. You can envision him grabbing your hand to save you from falling.
This is excellent for a little monkey, but the startle reflex causes a baby to wake up when you put him in his cradle if his head tips backwards.
What is the solution? Allow your baby’s head to tip rearward as he is placed in the crib or cradle.
