Personal Hygiene/Body:
1. Moisturizer – simply scoop some out of the jar and apply all over your body, including neck and face.
2. Eye cream – apply under the eyes to reduce puffiness, bags, and wrinkles. Use on the lids in the evening.
3. Preshave – coconut oil will prep skin for the pending damage caused by shaving.
4. Aftershave – coconut oil will help heal your skin after shaving without clogging pores.
5. Deodorant – coconut oil alone can be used as a deodorant, but even more effective in combination with cornstarch/arrowroot powder and baking soda!
6. Hair Conditioner/Deep Treatment - use as a leave in hair conditioner by applying a teaspoon of coconut oil to your ends and then running your fingers through your hair to distribute the rest! For a deeper treatment, rub in a tablespoon of coconut oil onto your dry scalp and gently work through to the ends. Put a shower cap on to prevent transfer onto bed linens and leave on overnight.
7. Hair Gel/Defrizzer – rub a little between your palms and either scrunch into hair (for curly hair) or finger comb in through from scalp to ends (for wavy/straight hair).
8. Toothpaste – there are numerous recipes out there but I just mix coconut oil and baking soda and dab a little of the mix on my toothbrush.
9. Make up remover – use a cotton swab and a dab of coconut oil and you would be amazed at how well it works!
10. Chapstick – just rub a little into lips and it not only acts as a softening agent but it also has an SPF of about 4 so you get a little protection!
11. Massage Oil – pretty simple; grab some and rub!
12. Lubricant – it is an all natural, perfectly safe personal lubricant. Not compatible with latex!
13. Sunscreen
14. Stretch Mark Cream – coconut oil is great at nourishing damaged skin. It may not be the magic stretch mark cure but it will help.
15. Nipple Cream – works great to nourish cracked, sore, or dry nipples. Apply to a cotton ball and leave on your nipples between feedings.
16. Diaper salve – very comforting on a rashy bum with no harsh chemicals. Also safe for cloth diapers.
17. Cradle cap – having issues with dry skin on your baby’s scalp? Coconut oil will not only nourish your baby’s skin, it also helps eliminate cradle cap. Just rub a teaspoon onto scalp daily.
18. Body scrub – mix coconut oil and sugar together and rub all over! Rinse off and your skin will be super soft! You can add in essential oils if you would like a specific smell.

Coconut oil speeds up the healing process of bruises by repairing damaged tissues. Plus, it smells a heck-of-a-lot better than anything from the pharmacy.

75. Chewing Gum in Hair Remover – just rub some coconut oil over the stuck chewing gum, leave in for about 30 minutes, then roll the gum between your fingertip. Voila! It’s out!
76. Polish Furniture - coconut oil with a little bit of lemon juice to polish wood furniture. However, I recommend you test it first on a very small, unobtrusive part of your furniture to make sure it works the way you’d like.

Proud Mom

As mothers, we all have times where we feel like our families and our children are not doing well enough. Often as moms, we can also feel like we are failing. Then something happens out of nowhere or someone tells us something that becomes our mom’s proudest moment.

I always remind myself as a mom, to appreciate little things. I always make sure that I teach my children that if they put their minds to it, their dreams will come true.

Two of my proud moments today

My oldest son had his photography featured in Washington DC. This picure was taken on his Iphone 6s. His passion has always been photography. This image was taken at random as we were walking in the park. His teacher was really interested in his work at his High School photography class and told him he had potential for his work. At the end of the year he submitted his photo to the Congressional Art Competition by Congressman Ed Case. He didn’t expect anything but the teacher congratulated him when he got to school and told him that he had won. My oldest son was always a good student and was on the roll of honors, but he was shy, so I was shocked that he could break out of his shell. I am so proud of him. We got him his own DSLR camera this Christmas, and he will be able to focus more on his photography after this pandemic ends.

On the other hand, my second to the older son has hit Platinum Record on his song called “Before I die” you can listen to it here https://soundcloud.com/larcope/before-i-die. I’m so proud of this young man, even after people made fun of him and told him he would never make it far he didn’t give up and kept trying. With his determination, I know he will go far. Maybe someday his name will be known like Tupac, Eminem. We will just have to wait and see..

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

The Christmas tree and the christmas decorations are finally up up. Yeah, it is starting to look a lot like Christmas, but it just doesn’t feel the same this year. I’m sad that my baby is missing out on all his first. He didn’t get to see Fourth of July fireworks, didn’t get to trick or treat on Halloween, and didn’t get to experience Christmas gift shopping at the mall and getting his photo taken with Santa. I wasn’t able to take holiday pictures this year as I normally do every year. My seven year old keeps asking me when the coronavirus will stop. I would like to pray for the virus to go away this year so that we can continue to live a normal life.

This year, I’m done with all my Christmas shopping and it’s all done online. I am so proud of myself because, during Cyber Monday, I was able to find good deals. At first, I was worried that my presents weren’t going to make it on time here in Hawaii, but now all I have to do is wrap them and put them under my Christmas tree. I still haven’t had the time to do it because lately I’ve been so tired. Having a new baby in the house has put a toll on me. My baby wants attention all the time and all he wants is to always be with me. Most of the time I baby wear so I can do some things in the house but even that is hard. He needs me to lie beside him when he takes a nap, and that’s the only way he can sleep. He likes snuggling next to me and I end up falling asleep most of the time, too. I’m just going to treasure these moments.

I know I haven’t blogged a lot, but that’ll change. I want to capture all my memories, write about my children and see them grow up. Thanks for visiting my blog until next time!

Skin to Skin contact is very important. It helps the baby to get used to life outside the womb and is highly important for supporting mothers to start breastfeeding and to develop a close, loving relationship with there baby So it’s a great idea to keep doing skin to skin with your baby for as long as possible. Immediate benefits of skin to skin includes.

  2. It encourages and support breastfeeding by releasing hormones to stimulate milk production.
  3. Skin to skin contact relaxes mom and baby

Research shows that it helps decreased the stress for mother and baby. Not only will there be less crying , your baby will be able to sleep much longer. It also improves the physical health of mom and baby and it gives them more bonding time by helping baby be aware of a sense or love and warmth. Children who experienced more skin to skin showed better language, cognitive and motor skills.

So tired..

Lately I’ve been so exhausted. Taking care of baby, helping my 7 year old with distance learning , cooking, cleaning and just trying to maintain the house is just overwhelming. During the day I’m like a walking zombie.. I want to sleep but there is so much that needs to be done..

Today my husband, me and baby Caius went out to go get some groceries. After we went to target to go look at the walker/bouncer that they had. We weren’t able to find one that we liked so I’m just going to order it on Amazon. Amazon is my best friend during this pandemic. We hardly ever go out except for essential stuffs.

Baby Caius is almost 3 months now. Time really flies.. He is getting so big and really advance for his age. He has been holding his head since he turned one month old. At almost 3 months he is giggling, talking to us and always wants to stand up. He loves it when we bounce him up and down on our lap. He enjoys watching cocomelon and loves bath time, being read to and listening to lullaby’s before bed. Everyone adores him in the house and he is always being pass around.

Ultimate Hospital Bag Checklist for Mom and Baby

After having four children and this time with my fifth I learned what to pack and what not to pack in my hospital bag. Some things are just unnecessary. With your due date fast approaching, and you know it’s time to pack your hospital bag. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some ideas.

When to Pack Your Hospital Bag?

Usually you should have your bag ready to go (besides last-minute items like your toothbrush) by your 36- 37 weeks, just in case you go into labor before your due date.

Here’s a list of everything you may want or need with you in the hospital.

What to Pack in Hospital Bag for Mom

  • Birth Plan – Print a couple of duplicates—one for you, one for your work nurse(s) and maybe another to secure in your room. It’s a good idea to highlight some key points for quick reference.
  • A Robe. A comfortable robe is one of the best postpartum clothing items out there. I kinda regret not bringing one on my first pregnancy. It is good to use as cover up when your breastfeeding or when you have visitors.
  • Toiletries. Remember these! You’ll need your hair brush, toothbrush and toothpaste, antiperspirant, lip balm, additional hair tie ( I was always losing my hair ties) and face wipes (I recommend these in case your not going to be showering right away).
  • Comfortable Clothes. If you plan to breastfeed I suggest you pack a comfortable tank top, nursing bra. Pair your tank top with a soft, loose pant like joggers or lightweight sleep pants. For footwear, shoe socks are great for being comfortable. Slip-on shoes, Crocs or flip-flops for returning home. Your feet may be swollen from IV liquids so you’ll be appreciative for shoes you can undoubtedly slip on.
  • Drinks. Pack a reusable water bottle. I was so thirsty I felt bad because I kept asking the nurses for water.
  • Extra Long Phone Charger. I’ve noticed that the outlet at the hospital are far away from the hospital beds.
  • Nipple Cream. If you plan breastfeeding this is a must have. Sore and Crack nipple is no fun.
  • Adult Diapers. Hospital will provide you with those mesh underwear but I feel like adult diapers like Depends felt more comfortable and secure.

What to pack for Baby

After you’ve pack what you need for the hospital it’s time to decide what you need to pack for baby.

  • Carseat. If you are driving home this is a must. The hospital won’t let you leave without it and it must already be installed.
  • Going Home Outfit. Aim to bring two different size outfit because you don’t know how big or small your baby is. I usually bring one newborn size and one 0-3 months in size. Don’t forget hat and socks!
  • Your pediatrician contact information. Doctors and nurse will ask you these information multiple times so its good to have it handy.

Do not bring Diapers and Wipes. The hospital will provide it all for you. I actually recommend to bring an extra plastic bag to put all those extra freebie you get from the hospital.

What your partner should bring to hospital

If you have a partner that would be staying with you and keeping you company. Remind them to pack extra clothing and their toothbrush. Here are other things they can bring with them

  • Lots of Snacks. For example crackers, candies. Their own reusable bottle water.
  • Book, Ipad, Laptop or anything that can keep them entertain incase of downtime.
  • Blanket. Hospital blankets are usually thin..

37 Weeks News

Well, here here I am just about a few weeks left on this pregnancy journey. It’s weird that the closer I get to my due date the less and less real it feels. Did this happen to anyone else? The only real difference is occasionally I would experience something and I would be like “wait…is this labor?”.

How’s Baby?

Baby Caius is about the size of a cantaloupe. This week I am considered full term and baby can come any day now. Basically, he’s mostly done baking in there and is really just fattening up. Since I have diabetes my OB is really keeping track of my pregnancy. I have been prescribed a non-stress test twice a week. It’s to measure fetal movement, baby’s heart rate and how much amniotic fluid I have. My doctor has plans to induce me at 39 weeks.

How’s Mom: Symptoms

Heartburn: Oh gosh I hate this feeling. It gets worse at night when I’m trying to go to sleep.. I really have to watch what I eat. I mostly get it if I eat too large of a serving, particularly things high in fat. I find the best ways to prevent it are eating small portions, avoiding high-fat foods, and staying upright for at least an hour after eating.

Fatigue: I have less overall energy this trimester. I sleep longer and nap a lot. I’m embracing sleep and pretty much letting myself sleep whenever I’m tired. I figure pretty soon naps and good sleep will be few and far between so I might as well get them in while I can.

Numb fingers/feet:  My fingers and feet go numb at night while I’m asleep. It bothers me so much I end up waking up and not being able to go back to sleep..

Comfort Level: Overall, get pretty uncomfortable if I have to sit too long, particularly in bad chairs with no back support. Depending on exactly how the baby is positioned in my belly, it can make me more or less uncomfortable. I have a lot of pressure on my lower rib cage most of the time. However when he does drop all his weight down low I feel like I’m walking around with a bowling ball between my legs and I always have to go to the bathroom to pee.

Preparing for Labor

Knowing that labor could come on anytime in the next week or two, I’m definitely starting to prepare myself more and more. A lot of people ask me if I’m nervous or anxious about labor and I’m really not. I can imagine once it’s happening I might be, but I don’t feel nervous about it at all right now.

Either way, I’ve been doing a few things to get myself ready:

  • Hospital Bag: This is packed! The only thing that’s missing right now is snacks to bring to the hospital in case my hubby and I get hungry.
  • Daily Activity: I have been less active the past few weeks than I was in my second trimester. But, I’m trying very hard to make sure to stay moving every day. Since COVID happened and the lock down especially with my condition I didn’t really go out unless I had to go to my appointments. I found another way to get my walking in by searching for walking exercise on Youtube. Studies prove that walking during pregnancy is very good for you and baby, and some even say it COULD help in labor.

As far as early labor signs, I really haven’t had anything big yet. I’ve had people asking if I’m dilated yet or having contractions and the answer is mostly “no.” I’ve had a few very mild, super dull contractions.

Baby Things: I finished washing baby clothes – which was probably my most favorite baby preparation project yet. Folding all those little onesies and tiny socks! I am going to try cloth diaper this time around. Wish me luck!

Nesting: I’m for sure going through the nesting stage. I’ve been cleaning every spot in the house and organizing the drawers and the closets.It can get exhausting but it must be done.

Maternity Clothes: It’s true, you hit a point where even the maternity clothes stop fitting… pretty much none of my maternity jeans fit (or fit in any way that can be considered comfortable) Luckily, I can still wear a lot of dresses, which I find super comfortable.

Overall I would say that I’m ready. Just waiting for the day baby decides to come.

Why I Sent Myself To Time Out

As mothers we all love our kids. We would do anything for them, pass mountains if we wanted to. But, let’s be real. Sometimes those little ones can drive us crazy. My oldest are great, however once in a while they simply get at each others nerves. During those times it appears like I hear an overabundance of the screaming, whining, “Mom!” It is when I wish I can get away and hide.

I’ve tried the whole lot to hold the peace between my kids. Most of the time they do behave nicely, but once in awhile…well you can imagine. Once they really got on my last nerve. I wanted to scream. I wanted to yell. I wanted to just walk out of the house. But instead, I stood up, and excused myself and gave myself a time out. I marched right up to my room and closed the door.

In my room there was silence. I took some deep breaths and sat on my bed for a few minutes. The silence was enjoyable. Downstairs I noticed became really quiet. They were probably stunned that I walked away and gave myself timeout.

A few moments after I calmed down I went downstairs, had a conversation with my kids and peace was restored. So why did I give myself a time out? There were few reasons. Number one, I didn’t want to lash out at them. Screaming doesn’t help also, it only makes the problem worse. Removing myself was a way to make sure my feelings didn’t amplify unreasonably.

But, it was more than that. I wanted my kids to know that being aware of your emotions and taking the time out to reconfigure your thoughts is a good idea for anyone. A time out is not a mere punishment, it’s a coping mechanism. Taking the time to close your eyes, breathe, count to ten, can make you see your trouble in a whole new light. 

And, while we are being honest, just having that time out break was lovely… and I’d do it again anytime.
